Pressing beyond obstacles to reach your vision.
BEYOND THE LEARNING CURVE
It has been two years since I did a recording on the podcast, Pressing Beyond. Time off did not change a thing. The concept of pressing beyond is ongoing as we are forever encountering obstacles when trying to reach our vision. And we all have one.
One of life's challenges is the learning curve. To learn a new skill could be frustrating especially when it requires lots of lessons and 'practice, practice, practice.' Let's be honest, we beginners tend to be clumsy, awkward and probably not having too much fun. Yet, we can press beyond any learning curve, knowing the truth, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13).
To illustrate my point, let's look at golf. Golf was never on my radar until I married a man who was and is all about golf. Since I started playing the game a few years ago, I had to come up a huge learning curve. To start, I found it's a game of patience, focus and strategy; none of which are my strengths. It's daunting just trying to figure out how to posture, how to grip and how to swing the club. Lots of rules and at my age, I don't want to learn new rules. I just want to have fun!
Thus, I joined a golf clinic that met every week. The continuity made all the difference. My perspective changed. I sensed a shift as I started enjoying the game. Rather than toss in the towel, I decided to stay the course to experience what I would have missed if I didn't keep going. More so, I trusted in the One who strengthens me.
Learning curves can be awkward, frustrating and time consuming. And not just in the game of golf. Defied by life's larger challenges such as relationships, family, work and health issues, we will encounter new learning curves. But, it is not by our strength, but "through Christ who strengthens us" that will get us past the learning curve.
What sort of learning curve has been holding you back from getting into your game?
